Adults in Austria need a net worth of approximately 62,400 euros, equivalent to 71,378 US dollars, to rank among the wealthier half of the country’s population, according to financial data. That figure encompasses bank balances, savings, securities, real estate, and other assets once liabilities are subtracted. The calculation relies on median wealth figures rather than averages, providing a distinct perspective on economic distribution across the nation.
Global Wealth Report Places Austria at Rank 27 Worldwide
The Swiss banking group UBS released its Global Wealth Report, establishing Austria at rank 27 globally in median wealth. The median marks the exact midpoint of the population and serves as a more reliable indicator than average wealth, which is often skewed upward by high-net-worth individuals. While Austria’s average wealth sits at roughly 280,000 US dollars, the 71,378 US dollar median reflects the actual midpoint more accurately.
Austria Holds Middle Tier for Median Wealth
Austria occupies a middle tier when compared with international threshold values tracked in the UBS report. Germany and the United States record lower median figures at 53,485 US dollars and 68,998 US dollars, respectively. Conversely, median wealth climbs significantly higher in France at approximately 122,000 US dollars, Italy at roughly 131,000 US dollars, Switzerland at 145,500 US dollars, and Luxembourg at 394,000 US dollars. Extreme variations appear in country averages, where Switzerland exceeds 910,000 US dollars and the United States reaches roughly 696,000 US dollars.
Private Wealth Rises Worldwide for the Third Year
Global private wealth increased by 10.8 percent, marking the third year of growth, according to the UBS findings. More than 2,600 new dollar millionaires emerged worldwide each day, totaling nearly one million new millionaires across the entire year. The report indicates that over 40 percent of all global millionaires continue to reside in the United States.
