UConn Women’s Basketball vs. Providence: Senior Day & BIG EAST Dominance

STORRS, Conn. – The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team, currently ranked No. 1, will celebrate Senior Day this Sunday, February 22nd, at noon in Gampel Pavilion. The Huskies (28-0, 17-0 BIG EAST) will host Providence (14-14, 7-10), with the game broadcast on FS1 and the UConn Sports Network from Learfield (FOX Sports 97.9).

Prior to the game, UConn will honor five players: Ice Brady, Caroline Ducharme, Azzi Fudd, Ayanna Patterson, and Serah Williams. A postgame ceremony recognizing their contributions to the program will be streamed on the UConn women’s basketball X and Facebook pages, the UConn Huskies YouTube page, and UConn+.

The departing seniors have been instrumental in a remarkably successful run for the Huskies. Since Ducharme and Fudd joined the team in 2021, UConn has amassed an overall record of 159-21. Their tenure has included winning the 2025 National Championship, appearing in two NCAA Championship games, reaching three Final Fours, and securing nine conference championships.

UConn clinched the 2025-26 BIG EAST regular season championship with a victory over Villanova last Wednesday, earning the No. 1 seed in next month’s BIG EAST Tournament. The Huskies have won a remarkable 64 consecutive league games, including tournament contests.

The Villanova game saw a strong performance from Azzi Fudd, who scored 25 points, and sophomore Sarah Strong, who contributed 21 points, 12 rebounds, and five steals. UConn overcame a halftime deficit, outscoring Villanova 26-12 in the third quarter to secure an 83-69 victory. Junior Ashlynn Shade added 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists for the Huskies.

UConn holds a 51-21 all-time record against Providence, and has won the last 38 meetings between the two teams. Their most recent matchup took place on December 31st in Providence, resulting in a decisive 90-53 win for the Huskies. In that game, Fudd recorded 19 points, six assists, and four steals, while Strong added 17 points and seven rebounds.

Providence enters Sunday’s game having won their last four contests, including a 66-60 victory over DePaul. Sabou Gueye currently leads the Friars in scoring, averaging 15.3 points per game. Erin Batth is in her third season as head coach of the Providence women’s basketball team.
