In the summer of 1987, 22-year-old Udo Benko was brought into the Sturm graz squad by manager Walter Ludescher. Initially deployed in midfield, benko made an immediate impact, appearing in 30 of 36 matches during the 1987/88 season and scoring an remarkable seven goals before the winter break. This strong performance contributed to Sturm Graz’s accomplished season, culminating in a third-place finish and qualification for the UEFA Cup.
