Strategic Shift at the University of Stavanger
In a notable departure from the usual pursuit of global recognition through rankings, the University of Stavanger (UiS) has announced its withdrawal from both the Times Higher Education and other international university rankings. UiS leadership cited a period of significant internal restructuring as the primary driver behind this decision.
According to UiS officials, the ongoing restructuring process demands a substantial allocation of resources and personnel. Participating in the comprehensive data collection and reporting required by these rankings is a time-consuming and labor-intensive undertaking, diverting focus from the university’s core priorities during this critical phase of change.
We are committed to strengthening our academic profile, but believe that our current resources are best directed towards supporting our students and faculty through this period of change.Rankings participation, while valuable, is not our immediate focus.
