An iconic UK is joining forces with a former wrestler for Amazon Prime Video’s latest blockbuster that looks like perfect summer viewing.
The streaming platform is currently enjoying the success of The Accountant 2, with the Ben Affleck action sequel dropping last week.
Racing to the top of Prime’s most-viewed charts, fans were delighted to finally have a sequel to the 2016 hit after years of waiting.
On top of this, Hugh Grant horror film Herectic, Jason Satham’s A Working Man and comedy Deep Cover have proven to be popular with subscribers.
Dropping on Wednesday morning (July 2) was Heads of State, an action movie which appears to be a mix of Midnight Run and Olympus Has Fallen.
The plot synopsis reads: “U.S. President Will Derringer and British Prime Minister Sam Clarke have a not-so-friendly and very public rivalry.
“However, when Air Force One gets shot down over enemy territory, they find themselves on the run and working together to thwart a global conspiracy that threatens the entire free world.”
Playing the US President is none other than John Cena, who has established himself as one of the best wrestler turned actors in recent years.
Initially playing action heroes, Cena proved in Trainwreck, The Suicide Squad and Ricky Stanicky that using his comedic chops is where he shines.
With The Rock continuing to release less-than-stellar films, Cena is busier than ever and always has fans racing to check out his projects.
The Prime Minister is played by Idris Elba, who after bursting onto the scene in The Wire has appeared in some of Hollywood’s biggest movies.
The 52-year-old has been on a roll as of late, bringing Luther back for a Netflix movie in 2023 and becoming a fan favourite in the Sonic The Hedgehog franchise.
In a career that has made him one of the top 20 highest-grossing actors of all time, Elba has appeared in the MCU, Star Trek and DC franchises.
Joining Cena and Elba in the film is Nick Jonas’ wife Priyanka Chopra, The Boys’ Jack Quaid, House of the Dragon’s Paddy Considine, Office Space’s Stephen Root, and Spy Kids’ Carla Gugino.
Considering the film is directed by Ilya Naishuller, who made Hardcore Henry and Nobody, this is a film you don’t want to miss.
Heads of State is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video now
