“This is further evidence of a significant cultural shift regarding matters of faith and religion in this country,” said Sam Richardson, ‍CEO of SPCK Group.

Richardson attributed the increase to​ a combination of factors, ​including worldwide political and social changes, the lingering effects of ⁣the ​COVID-19 pandemic, global conflicts, the rise of artificial intelligence, and⁣ a growing mental health crisis. He noted that these factors ⁢are prompting individuals to re-examine questions of ⁢meaning and spirituality.

The ⁤rise in Bible sales contrasts with previous trends. The 2021 census in England and Wales revealed that only 46.2% of the population identified as christian, a substantial decrease from the 70% recorded in 2001. ⁢ This suggests a potential reversal of the decline in Christian affiliation.
