Backing for the Gang Suppression Force

The UK signaled firm backing for international efforts to restore order. It expressed support for initiatives led by the United States and Panama to expedite the renewal of the authorization for the Gang Suppression Force.

London also welcomed a recent commitment from Germany to provide airlift support for the deployment of personnel to bolster security operations on the ground.

Targeting Financial and Operational Networks

Alongside military and logistical support, British officials emphasized the necessity of using the Security Council’s full capabilities to target the financial and operational networks sustaining armed groups.

This approach includes expanding international sanctions against gang leaders and those who facilitate their daily operations.

Risks Facing Humanitarian and Medical Personnel

During the briefing, the UN Security Council heard concerns regarding armed gangs increasingly targeting the medical and humanitarian providers essential for vulnerable populations.

Among those highlighted as facing severe operational risks is Dr. Jean “Bill” Pape, known for life-saving efforts who has previously briefed the Council.
