In response to increasing cyber threats, the UK government is ramping up its investment in cyber security and has relaunched its cyber advisory board. The move follows high-profile attacks on organizations such as Marks & Spencer.
The advisory board includes senior executives from BAE Systems, Santander, Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and Google deepmind. These experts will advise on securing critical public infrastructure and government services, according to officials.
The initiative will inform the upcoming cyber resilience bill, expected to be introduced to Parliament later this year.
The government’s plan acknowledges growing evidence that cyber investment presents a meaningful business opportunity. Research from ESET indicates that UK businesses generate an estimated £27 billion in additional revenue annually through cyber security investments.
More than half the firms surveyed reported increased turnover due to improved cyber credentials, citing benefits such as winning new business and accessing new markets.
