UK Regulator Takes Aim: $35 Billion Tech Deal Under the Microscope as CMA Launches Probe into Synopsys-Ansys Merger
Synopsys Faces Antitrust Investigation Over $35 Billion Ansys Acquisition
IT House reported on October 26 that the British Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched a formal first-stage investigation into Synopsys’ proposed $35 billion acquisition of industrial simulation software company Ansys.
The CMA previously launched a pre-investigation consultation process on the merger on August 12 this year. The agency must announce by December 20, 2024, whether to conduct a more in-depth second phase of investigation into the case.
Synopsys announced its plans to acquire Ansys on January 16 this year, and the latter’s shareholders approved the transaction on May 22.
A Synopsys spokesperson expressed confidence in the positive resolution of the current regulatory review process, stating: “We remain confident in the positive resolution of the current regulatory review process and continue to expect the transaction to close in the first half of 2025.”
