UK Steps Up with £1 Million Aid to Help Vietnam Rebuild After Devastating Typhoon Yagi
UK Announces £1 Million Humanitarian Aid for Vietnam Following Typhoon Yagi
The UK government has announced a £1 million (equivalent to VND32 billion) humanitarian aid package for Vietnam to support the initial response to the devastating impact of super typhoon Yagi.
Typhoon Yagi has brought widespread destruction to many provinces and cities in Vietnam, resulting in significant loss of life and displacement. As of September 14, 351 people were reported dead or missing, and over 800 injured following severe landslides and flooding.
The humanitarian aid will be delivered directly to affected communities through local partners, providing essential goods, cash transfers, and vital services such as health, water, and sanitation. This support will help alleviate the immediate suffering of those affected and support the long-term recovery of the region.
Vietnam is one of the most climate-vulnerable countries globally, and the UK is committed to supporting its climate resilience efforts. As a lead country in the Partnership for a Just Energy Transition, the UK is working closely with the Vietnamese government to strengthen its ability to respond to climate-related disasters.
Anneliese Dodds, Minister of State for Development, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, stated, “The UK Government stands in solidarity with those affected by the devastating impact of Typhoon Yagi in Vietnam. We have been working closely with the Vietnamese Government and humanitarian partners to identify areas where our support can have the most positive and effective impact.”
The aid package will focus on providing essential supplies, cash, and vital services to people in the hardest-hit areas, supporting the most vulnerable communities and promoting long-term resilience to climate change.
