Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the , and sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in London, it was down 0.17%.

The best performers of the session were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:), which rose 5.19% or 24.60 points to trade at 498.80 at the close. At the same time, 3i Group (LON:) rose 4.34% (139.00 points) to end at 3,340.00; British Telecom Group (LON:) rose 3.69% (LON:) to 147.40 in late trade.

The worst performing stocks on the disk were Schroders Investment Group (LON:), which fell 13.70% (49.80 points) to trade at 313.80 at the close. AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:) fell 8.40% or 928.00 points to end at 10,114.00. Hikma Pharmaceuticals PLC (LON:) fell 1.94% or 36.00 points to 1,820.00.

989 stocks on the London Stock Exchange fell, which exceeded the number of stocks that closed higher – 842. At the same time, 622 stocks did not rise or fall, which was basically the same.
