UK Tech Jobs Surge as AI Skills Demand Skyrockets

 Updated june 6, 2025
⁤

The demand for AI skills is driving a surge in⁢ UK tech job openings, wich ‌have increased by 21% to levels not seen as before ⁢the pandemic. A 200% spike in the need for artificial intelligence ⁣ expertise is largely responsible for⁢ this growth, ⁤according‍ to recent research.

London is at ⁤the forefront of this trend, accounting ⁢for 80% of all AI-related⁣ job ‍postings. Companies based in London indicated they would dedicate 20% of their tech budgets to AI this ⁤year. This contrasts sharply wiht businesses in North East England, Scotland, and Wales,‌ where the allocation is 13%.

The‍ rise of large language models (LLMs) appears to⁢ be correlated ⁢with increased ⁤revenue per⁣ employee. From‍ 2018 to 2022, revenue per employee⁢ grew by 7% annually. However,‍ between 2018 and 2024, ‍this growth jumped‍ to 27%. Industries less affected by AI, such as mining and hospitality,‍ saw a slight decrease in this metric, researchers found.
