What Happened: Leaked ​Russian Documents Detail Arms ⁤Request

Ukraine’s “Kyiv Self-reliant” has obtained leaked Russian documents indicating that ‍China has been purchasing Russian arms ‍through clandestine channels as 2022. The purpose of thes purchases is to strengthen the combat capabilities of​ the People’s Liberation Army’s ‍(PLA) airborne troops,perhaps in preparation ​for an invasion of Taiwan.

According to the ⁢leaked Russian communications ‍reviewed by The Kyiv Independent, ​the Chinese government submitted an arms ‍purchase request to‍ Russia just over a month after Russia launched⁤ its full-scale ​invasion ‍of ukraine in 2022.

The request, designated ZH2022-Y53 and​ received on April 7, 2022,⁣ specifically sought ‌a range of weapons ⁢and armored vehicles suitable for airborne troops.

Three weeks later, Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) instructed Rosoboronexport, the‌ state-owned enterprise responsible for all ⁣Russian arms exports, to demonstrate airdroppable Russian combat vehicles to a Chinese ‍delegation.
