Ukraine Crisis: Russia Seeks Framework for Negotiations, Trump Calls for Swift Talks

Geneva, Switzerland – A third round of U.S.-mediated peace talks between Russia and Ukraine is set to begin February 17 and February 18 in Geneva, as the conflict enters its fifth year. Confirmation of the talks came from both governments on Friday, raising cautious hopes for a potential, though limited, de-escalation.

The negotiations, which have already been held in Abu Dhabi in two previous trilateral sessions this year, mark the first time discussions will take place on European soil. Despite the shift in location, neither side has expressed significant optimism about achieving a comprehensive ceasefire agreement in the immediate future. However, some incremental progress has been made, notably a temporary pause in attacks on energy infrastructure agreed to in late January, followed by the first prisoner exchange in five months after the last round of talks.
