Ukrainian Drone Strike Reportedly Destroys Russian MiG-29 Fighter Jet in Crimea
Kyiv claims a Ukrainian drone attack on Thursday night resulted in the destruction of a Russian MiG-29 fighter jet stationed at the Kacha military base in Crimea. The Ukrainian intelligence service, known as HUR, released video footage purportedly showing the drone strike.
In addition to the fighter jet, HUR reported that a radar facility located near Simferopol, also on the Crimean peninsula, was destroyed in the same operation. This dual strike suggests a coordinated effort to degrade Russian air defence and offensive capabilities in the region.
While HUR has publicly asserted these claims, independent verification remains pending. The ongoing conflict has made it challenging for journalists and independent observers to confirm battlefield reports from either side.
The crimean peninsula has been a focal point of the conflict since Russia’s annexation in 2014. Ukraine has repeatedly vowed to liberate the territory, and recent attacks suggest an escalating campaign to disrupt Russian military operations there.
