According to reports from Radio Free Europe/Liberty, The Independent, and NBC News, the overnight operations utilized domestically produced weaponry, including a missile identified by The Independent as the Flamingo, to strike deep within Russian borders.
Strikes Hit Samara Space Centre and Industrial Infrastructure
The military campaign targeted a facility in Russia’s Samara region where rockets for military satellite launches are equipped, according to open-source intelligence analysts cited by Ukrainian Pravda and Radio Free Europe/Liberty. NBC News reported that the Samara industrial site was heavily damaged in the assault, which forms part of Kyiv’s broader escalation of long-range strikes against military-industrial targets.
In addition to the Samara facility, The Independent reported that Ukrainian forces used a Flamingo missile to strike a space center and Russian jets. Al Jazeera noted that the strikes also disrupted a Russian Starlink-style network while Moscow worked to track an incoming arms package.
Naval Base Attacks and Regional Economic Toll
Reuters reported that Ukrainian forces pounded naval vessels and grain terminals at Russia’s Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk, forcing two major grain terminals to halt operations. In a separate incident highlighted by Reuters, a Ukrainian drone attack triggered a fire at the Baltic Sea port of Ust-Luga, a major hub for oil exports, though regional governor Alexander Drozdenko stated that authorities quickly cleared up the damage.
The economic fallout from the sustained drone campaign continues to mount inside Russia. Reuters reported that an oil refinery in Orsk was forced to shut down completely following a drone strike two days prior, with repairs expected to take up to six months. Transport costs have also spiked as Ukrainian strikes drive up diesel fuel prices, federal highway tolls, and driver shortages, according to Reuters.
