Ukraine Neutralizes Russian Spy Network Seeking F-16 Locations
Ukrainian Security Service Dismantles Russian Spy Ring Targeting Military
Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) announced the dismantling of a Russian military intelligence (GRU) spy network operating across five ukrainian regions. The operation resulted in the apprehension of 12 Russian agents and thier informants.
“Some are deserters who abandoned ukrainian army units and were subsequently recruited by Russian special services while evading justice,” the SBU stated.
The spy ring operated in a decentralized manner, with members communicating through a resident handler based in the Dnipropetrovsk region. To maintain secrecy, the handler used forged documents, including fake volunteer and anti-corruption activist credentials.
The handler recruited individuals from the Zaporizhzhia, Kharkiv, Sumy, Mykolaiv, and Odesa regions. Their primary objective was to gather intelligence on Ukrainian air defense positions, locate potential airfields for F-16 fighter jets, and identify companies manufacturing electronic warfare systems used against Russian drones.”To obtain intelligence, the suspects exploited their personal connections, including Ukrainian soldiers stationed in frontline regions,” the SBU revealed.
After receiving preliminary facts, the agents would travel to the target areas for further reconnaissance.
During raids, authorities seized mobile phones, flash drives, military documents, and forged identification papers.
