Ukraine Strikes Back: 1,200 Civilians Flee as Russian Ammunition Depot Goes Up in Flames
Ukraine Launches Strikes on Russian Arms Depots
In a significant escalation of the conflict, Ukraine has attacked two Russian arms depots, one in the southern Krasnodar region and the other in the western Tver region. The attacks have resulted in the evacuation of over 1,000 people.
Attack on Krasnodar Region
The Ukrainian military confirmed that it had targeted an ammunition depot near the city of Tikhoretsk in Krasnodar, which is one of the three largest ammunition bases of the Russian military. The depot plays a crucial role in the military’s logistical operations during the attack on Ukrainian territory.
The attack on the arsenal in the village of Oktyabrsky in the Tver region caused a fire and explosion, prompting the evacuation of 1,200 people. Krasnodar region Governor Veniamin Kondratyev ordered the evacuation after a drone strike caused a fire that spread to explosive objects near Tikhoretsk.
Nighttime Drone Attack
A nighttime drone attack near the city of Toropets in the Tver region caused significant damage. Multiple videos on social media showed a massive explosion in the dark, with some comparing it to fireworks. Governor Igor Rudenya reported that debris from the attack was being cleared and announced the temporary closure of the M-9 federal highway.
Disruption of Train Services
The attack also disrupted several passenger trains, with a train from Moscow to the western city of Pskov being diverted and another train delayed.
Russian Defense Ministry Response
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that Russian forces had shot down 101 Ukrainian drones, mostly in the Bryansk border region and 18 in Krasnodar. Russia has claimed to shoot down Ukrainian drones almost daily in recent times.
Regional Impact
Krasnodar, which is separated from Ukraine by the Sea of Azov, has been spared attacks on the Russian border or the southern region until now. The recent attacks have raised concerns about the security of the region.
