Ukraine Takes First Step Towards Peace: Historic Online Talks with Russia Underway
Ukraine Prepares for Ceasefire Negotiations with Russia
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Ukraine is actively developing a plan to negotiate a ceasefire with Russia, which could be ready by November.
According to President Zelensky, Ukraine is working on a comprehensive plan that will serve as the basis for negotiations with Russia. Three main points of the plan have already been prepared, and online meetings have been held to discuss the details.
While President Zelensky did not elaborate on the specifics of the plan, he emphasized that Ukraine is committed to finding a peaceful resolution to the conflict. However, he also noted that Russia still appears to be interested in continuing the war.
Ukraine has proposed a 10-point peace formula to end the conflict with Russia, which includes the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukrainian territory, the restoration of the 1991 border, and the payment of war reparations to Kiev. However, Moscow has deemed these conditions unrealistic and an “ultimatum”.
Several countries, including China, Brazil, and Hungary, have put forward initiatives to end the conflict in Ukraine. Ukraine has ruled out any negotiations that are not based on President Zelensky’s peace formula.
President Zelensky has stated that Ukraine is ready to meet Russia at the Second Peace Summit, but only if Moscow is willing to participate in good faith. He emphasized that there can be no end to the war without the participation of both parties.
By early November, Ukraine’s plan for ceasefire negotiations with Russia is expected to be complete. This plan will serve as the basis for negotiations with Russia in any format, and Ukraine is hopeful that it will lead to a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
