kyiv’s recent drone attacks on Russian airbases prompted Ukrainians to mock former U.S. President Donald Trump. The coordinated strikes reportedly inflicted £5 billion in damages to Russia’s air force.

Ukrainian intelligence claims the attacks destroyed about 40 Russian planes, including strategic bombers. The operation sent shockwaves through the Kremlin, demonstrating Ukraine’s ability to strike inside Russia.

The attacks ‍and their aftermath⁢ highlighted the evolving role of ‍drone warfare in modern conflict.

Ukrainians celebrated the military operation ⁢and seized the opportunity to criticize Trump, who has blamed President Volodymyr Zelensky for the war and suggested Ukraine had “no cards to play.”

In February, Trump‍ said after conversations with both ⁣leaders, “I’ve had very good talks with Putin, and I’ve‍ had not such good talks with Ukraine…They don’t have any cards, but they play it tough. But we’re not going to let this continue.”

Following ⁤the aerial strikes, Business Ukraine journal posted, “Today Zelensky played the King of⁣ Drones,” referencing Trump’s card analogy.

Ukrainian defense journalist Illia Ponomarenko alluded to Zelensky’s ⁤past public criticism, stating, “This is what⁤ happens when a proud nation under attack doesn’t listen to all those: ‘ukraine has onyl six months left’. ‘You have no ⁤cards’. ‘Just surrender for peace, Russia cannot lose’.”

A meme showing ⁢Zelensky⁤ in a suit of cards circulated on social media.

Zelensky was previously criticized for wearing military fatigues to a‍ White house meeting, a practice he has maintained since the war began.

Amid the conflict, Russian and Ukrainian officials met in Istanbul for another round of peace negotiations.

Russia offered a “partial ceasefire”⁢ of two to three days to allow both sides to recover the bodies of fallen soldiers.

What’s next

Future negotiations and military actions will likely determine the long-term impact of the drone strikes and the ongoing‍ conflict ‍between Ukraine‍ and Russia.
