Ukraine War: Drone Attacks Escalate, Targeting Kyiv and Moscow

The conflict in Ukraine intensified as drone attacks and missile strikes escalated, marking day 1,200 of the war. Kyiv experienced a deadly barrage, while Moscow faced disruptions at its airports due to drone threats.
Friday saw at least six people killed in Kyiv by Russian missile and drone strikes, according to Ukrainian officials. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that three emergency workers were killed in a repeat strike while responding to an earlier attack. Additional casualties occurred in Chernihiv and Lutsk. Across Ukraine, 80 people sustained injuries in the widespread attacks.
Andrii Sybiha,Ukraine’s foreign minister,stated that Russia retaliated for the destruction of its aircraft by attacking Ukrainian civilians and damaging energy infrastructure. This follows Ukraine’s Operation Spiderweb, which reportedly used quadcopter drones to destroy Russian strategic bomber aircraft.
Russian aviation authorities restricted flights at Moscow regional airports Friday night amid drone threats, marking the third suspension since Thursday. the Russian defense ministry reported intercepting at least 82 Ukrainian drones over eight and a half hours, including six drones targeting Moscow, according to Mayor Sergei Sobyanin.
The Ukrainian military claimed responsibility for striking the Engels and Dyagilevo airfields in the Saratov and Ryazan regions, as well as hitting fuel reservoirs. Videos circulating online appeared to show a large fire at a fuel facility serving a military site in the Saratov region. BBC Verify confirmed the authenticity of videos showing a fuel depot on fire at Engels, corroborated by NASA satellite fire monitoring.
“If someone is not applying pressure and is giving the war more time to take lives, that is complicity and accountability. We must act decisively.”
Zelenskyy urged increased pressure on Russia to end the conflict. Meanwhile, Donald Trump stated he is still considering whether to approve sanctions against russia being reviewed by the U.S. Senate,saying he would use them “if it’s necessary.”
