Oleksandr Prokudin, the head of the Kherson regional military administration, stated that authorities have systematically supplied food via drones since March in coordination with military units. The recent mission marked one of the largest operations of its kind in the area. Prokudin detailed the scope of the operation in a Telegram message, noting that teams delivered 4,000 kilograms of provisions directly to one hundred specific locations throughout the town. The mission involved multiple military and security branches, including the 30th Marine Infantry Corps, the ‘Grom’ tactical group, the 34th ‘Borisfen’ Marine Infantry Brigade, the ‘Bolgarichi’ unit of the 11th National Guard Brigade, the 34th National Guard Regiment, and the 79th Border Detachment.
Conditions in Occupied Oleshki and Russian Interference
Oleshki sits roughly nine kilometers from the regional capital of Kherson, separated by the active frontline. Prokudin reported that occupying Russian forces are holding about 2,000 residents hostage in the town, a population that includes nearly fifty children. According to regional officials, Russian troops actively attempt to block humanitarian efforts by shooting down delivery drones. Prokudin accused occupying forces of confiscating or reselling food intended for children and elderly residents, and stated that civilians who attempt to collect aid face detention, confinement, and brutal beatings. Prokudin characterized the deliberate blocking of aid and the creation of artificial famines as non-prescribing war crimes.
International Appeals for Safe Humanitarian Corridors
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andri Sibiga addressed the crisis on the social media platform X, calling on international organizations to secure direct access to Oleshki. Sibiga urged external bodies to ensure that civilians receive necessary food, medicine, and safe evacuation routes.
