Ukrainian Forces Launch ATACMS Missile Strikes on Russian Kursk Region
Ukraine Attacks Russia with ATACMS Missiles
On November 26, Russia confirmed two more Ukrainian missile attacks in the Kursk region using U.S.-made ATACMS missiles. This followed Russia’s recent launch of a hypersonic missile, Oréshnik, against Ukraine.
The Russian Defense Ministry stated that over the past three days, the Ukrainian Armed Forces conducted two attacks with long-range Western weapons targeting Kursk. They confirmed that ATACMS tactical missiles produced in the United States were used in these strikes.
The report detailed that on Saturday, Kyiv fired five ATACMS missiles at an S-400 air defense division near Lotariovka, located 37 kilometers northwest of Kursk. Two of these missiles hit their targets, damaging a radar system and injuring military personnel.
On Monday, Ukraine launched eight ATACMS at the Kursk-Vostoch airfield. Russian air defenses intercepted and destroyed seven of them. Only one missile struck its target, causing minor damage to the airport infrastructure and resulting in two minor injuries.
Ukraine initiated these missile strikes despite a recent attack on a weapons factory in the Dnipró region by a Russian missile. The first strike by Ukraine occurred on November 19 in the neighboring Briansk region.
In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned Kyiv of potential new missile attacks with advanced weaponry if Ukraine continues its assaults on Russian territory.
