Ukrainian Hryvnia Hits Record Low Against US Dollar
Kyiv, Ukraine - The Ukrainian hryvnia plunged to a historic low against the US dollar, reaching 41.82 hryvnia per dollar,according to data from the National Bank of Ukraine.This marks a 0.16 hryvnia increase from the previous week’s rate of 41.66 hryvnia.
Experts predict the dollar could soon surpass the 42 hryvnia mark.
“There’s no doubt that the National bank will end the year at 42.10 hryvnia per dollar,” said the treasury director of a major Ukrainian bank. “This rate is factored into the 2024 state budget, so it’s difficult to criticize the regulator’s position.”
The government aims to acquire more national currency for dollars and euros for internal payments, a goal supported by the National Bank’s actions.
