The Rise of Audiovisual Communication in Education: A Comprehensive Look
The rising prominence of audiovisual media has become a staple in educational institutions, reflecting how students and faculty engage and interact with communication in modern society. On February 19, the University of Los Andes hosted an Audiovisual Expo that underscored the growing relevance and social impact of visual communication. This expo, centered in the university village, showcased the works of 18 students, marking a significant milestone since its inception specifically with the Communication and Photography course led by Professor Franklin Castellanos, who elucidated:
“Photographs, cartoons, analysis of contexts and infographics, all related to political, social, economic issues, among others, spotted . . .”
The Expo Experience: Audiovisual and Beyond
The exhibition encapsulate the contemporary relevance of audiovisual communication, examining topics ranging from political climates to social dynamics by presenting exhibits at the university’s core venues, including the Asdrúbal Colmenárez Art Gallery and the José Ignacio Cabrujas Film Hall.
The Asdrúbal Colmenárez Art Gallery hosted a variety of visual media. It displayed vivid cartoons, informative infographics and critical analyses of cultural, political, and sociopolitical topics created by students. These works offered profound reflections on the essence of modern Renaissance engagements in social media landscapes and copyright laws.

Gauging Impact of Social Media Footprints
The impact of social media was the central theme of discussion, showcasing how advancements in digital technology are intertwined with societal communications trends. The meeting at the Asdrúbal Colmenárez Art Gallery illustrated how negative and positive track marks of social networks can influence student perceptions and performances. Facebook and Twitter were highlighted as platforms often evoking polar emotional responses. Furthermore, showcasing trailblazing mediums such as TikTok and Snapchat, the meeting’s interdisciplinary approach inculcated constructive discussions on the impactful nature of various social media formats on our present-day personalities. For example, a study by Pew Research Center reveals that 62% of Americans get their news from social media, highlighting the significance of visual digital storytelling in crafting public narratives.
“… captured, they selected the importance of the image in modern society and how young people can use it right or wrong.”
