UMass Lowell Women’s Basketball Falls to Boston University 62-55
River Hawks Fall to Terriers in Tight Contest Despite Strong performances
LOWELL, Mass. – The UMass Lowell womenS basketball team (2-9) battled hard but ultimately fell to Boston University (5-4), 62-55, on Thursday evening at Costello Athletic Center.
Sophomore Abbey Lindsey led the River Hawks with 12 points, while sophomore Maddie rice recorded her first career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
“I’m a little bit disappointed in the outcome,” saeid Head Coach Denise King. “we had a great opportunity tonight.The crowd was great, so shoutout and props to all the club team sports and the steppers, especially. We lost the game on the free throw line and on the boards. The tougher team tonight won,but I do think that we showed great fight and we are getting better with each game.”
Lindsey was perfect from the free throw line,going 4-for-4,and added four rebounds and three assists. Rice, coming off the bench, shot 50% from the field and also contributed one steal and one block. Sophomore Rayne Durant chipped in nine points, three rebounds, one steal, and one block. Senior Sydney Watkins led the team with six steals, adding eight points, four rebounds, and four assists.
The River Hawks outshot the Terriers from the free throw line (69.2% to 60.0%) and beyond the arc (18.2% to 15.4%).
Boston University jumped out to an early lead, but UMass lowell responded with a 12-point run in the second quarter to take their first lead of the game. the River Hawks held onto the lead heading into halftime, 24-22.The third quarter saw both teams trading baskets, with UMass Lowell briefly regaining the lead thanks to a three-pointer from senior Amina Kameric and a five-point run capped off by a three-pointer from senior Tasha Lima.However, Boston university rallied in the fourth quarter, scoring seven unanswered points to retake the lead.Despite a valiant effort from the River Hawks, they were unable to overcome the deficit.
UMass Lowell will look to bounce back in their final non-conference game of 2023 against Massachusetts on Friday, December 20th, with a 1 p.m. tip-off.
