The victory marked the eighth consecutive win for the Minutewomen and their sixth straight win within MAC conference play. With this result, Massachusetts improved its season record to 15-3 overall and remained undefeated in the league with a 6-0 record. Western Michigan fell to 12-7 overall and 3-3 in MAC play.
Doubles Competition
Massachusetts secured the opening doubles point through a combination of a quick start and a significant comeback. At court No. 1, Ella Faessler and Renata Farima earned a 6-1 victory over Western Michigan’s Frida Weijerman and Marielou Baudouin.
The Broncos responded at the No. 3 spot, where Julia Frazir and Polina Khotko defeated Martina Pavissich and Madara Markevica with a score of 6-4, tying the doubles match.
The deciding point occurred at court No. 2, featuring leading seniors Amelia Tye and Amanda de Oliveira. The duo faced Audrey Smitek and Lola Glantz of Western Michigan and initially struggled, falling into a 4-1 deficit. Tye and de Oliveira fought back to knot the match at 5-5 before ultimately securing a 7-6(6) triumph to clinch the doubles point for UMass.
Singles Performance
The Minutewomen maintained their momentum through the singles portion of the event, winning five of the six available points.
Renata Farima was the first to finish, securing a 6-1, 6-1 win over Polina Khotko at the No. 5 position. Ella Faessler followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Lola Glantz at court No. 1.
At the No. 6 slot, Madara Markevica defeated Marielou Baudoin 6-2, 6-1. Amelia Tye continued the dominant run at No. 2 singles, defeating Frida Weijerman 6-3, 6-1.
Western Michigan managed to secure its only point of the day through Audrey Smitek, who won her match 6-4, 6-4.
Road to the MAC Championships
The win over Western Michigan ensures that the University of Massachusetts is one of four teams that will compete in the 2026 Mid-American Conference Championships. The tournament is scheduled to take place from April 25 to April 26, 2026, in Oxford, Ohio.
