UMass Track and Field Shatters Records at IC4A/ECAC Championships

BOSTON, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men’s track and field team delivered a standout performance at the IC4A/ECAC Indoor Track & Field Championships held at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center this weekend, setting three program records in the process.

The Minutemen showcased impressive speed and endurance, highlighted by multiple top-five finishes and record-breaking performances. Several athletes contributed to the team’s success, demonstrating the depth of talent within the program.

Jason DeJesus and Tyler Fortune finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the men’s 60m, clocking times of 6.85 and 6.86 seconds. Their close finish underscored the team’s strength in the sprint events.

Godot Gaskins emerged as a star performer, placing fourth in the men’s 200m with a time of 21.37 seconds. He also broke the indoor program record in the preliminary round with a time of 21.28 seconds. Gaskins continued his impressive form by claiming gold in the men’s 400m, finishing in 47.33 seconds and shattering another program record.

Colin Kirn secured a sixth-place finish in the men’s 800m, completing the race in 1:53.09. Tyler Medeiros also contributed to the team’s point total, finishing seventh in the men’s 1k with a time of 2:28.41.

Collin Catherwood achieved a significant victory, winning gold in the men’s 3k with a time of 8:06.65, which also established a new school record. Liam Ouellette added to the team’s success in the distance events, finishing sixth in the men’s 5k with a time of 14:41.91.

The Minutemen also excelled in relay events. Kailas Ciatto, Michael Sanchez, Colin Kirn, and Collin Catherwood combined for a winning time of 9:49.78 in the men’s Distance Medley Relay (DMR), securing another gold medal for UMass.

Elijah Wolinski scored for the team in the field events, finishing eighth in the men’s long jump with a leap of 22’1.75″. Hunter Feitel placed sixth in the men’s pole vault, clearing a height of 15’5″. Aiden Donovan secured a seventh-place finish in the men’s shot put, with a toss of 50’6.75″.

On the women’s side, Matthew Acquah claimed sixth in the women’s triple jump with a jump of 47’5″.

The UMass track and field team will split squads for their next competition, traveling to both the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Mass., and the URI Coaches Invitational in Providence, R.I., on Saturday, February 14.
