BALTIMORE, Md. — The University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) baseball team suffered a 7-6 loss to UMass Lowell in extra innings during the second game of their weekend series on Saturday evening, April 18, 2026.
The Retrievers entered the bottom of the ninth inning tied at 6-6, but were unable to hold the River Hawks scoreless in the 10th frame, allowing the go-ahead run to score on a sacrifice fly after two outs. UMBC had tied the game in the top of the ninth with a two-run rally, but could not capitalize on their momentum in the extra frame.

According to the UMBC Athletics website, senior right-hander Jake Miller started on the mound for UMBC and pitched six innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Relief pitcher Tyler Nguyen took the loss after surrendering the decisive run in the 10th, despite retiring the first two batters he faced.
