Netanyahu Faces Backlash at the United Nations General Assembly
Washington: Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu faced a wave of protests during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly. Delegates from various countries stood up and left the assembly hall, leaving Netanyahu to address a nearly empty room.
Despite the walkout, Netanyahu delivered his speech, emphasizing Israel’s desire for peace. “If you attack, we will attack,” he stated, highlighting the country’s ongoing conflict. Netanyahu also stressed that the fight is not only for Israel’s survival but also for the preservation of modern culture, which he believes is under threat from enemies.
Netanyahu called for Hamas to surrender its arms and release its hostages, stating that this would bring an immediate end to the war. However, he also warned that if Hamas remains in power in Gaza, it will continue to strengthen its military capabilities and launch attacks against Israel.
The conflict has resulted in a significant escalation of attacks on settlements in Lebanon, with Israeli forces targeting areas in southern Beirut. The humanitarian situation is dire, with estimates suggesting that over 700 people have lost their lives, including more than 50 children. At least 1,835 people have been injured in the attacks.
Israel has justified its attacks as targeting Hezbollah command centers and weapons depots. However, there is no evidence to support these claims, and many of the attacks have hit residential areas and apartment complexes.
