UN Delivers Historic Blow to Israel: Arab-Islamists Hail Groundbreaking Resolution
International Community Welcomes UN Resolution on Israeli Occupation
Arab and Islamic countries and organizations have welcomed the adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of a resolution calling on Israel to end its occupation of the Palestinian territories in 1967 within 12 months.
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry welcomed the adoption by the UN Council, describing it as a historic and definitive moment for the Palestinian issue and international law.
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) also welcomed the adoption of the UN General Assembly resolution, considering it an expression of genuine international will in support of the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to self-determination.
International Consensus
Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Jordan have all welcomed the UN resolution, stressing the need for concrete and credible steps to reach a just and comprehensive solution to the Palestinian issue.
The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has also welcomed the adoption of the historic resolution, calling on all countries to accept their responsibilities and take individual and collective measures to ensure that the Israeli occupation complies with its obligations under international law.
A Historic Decision
The Gulf Cooperation Council has welcomed the resolution, emphasizing the need to end the illegal presence of the Israeli occupation in the Palestinian territories and the right of the Palestinian people to reclaim their land.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has welcomed the UN resolution, stressing that it represents an international consensus on justice on the Palestinian issue and a victory for the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to self-determination.
Occupation and Expansion
Israel captured the West Bank, Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem in the 1967 war, and has since built and expanded settlements in the West Bank, despite international law prohibiting annexation.
The Israeli government has asserted its right to impose sovereignty over the West Bank, but the international community has consistently rejected this claim.
The UN vote comes as Israel continues its devastating war in Gaza, which has left thousands of Palestinians dead and wounded, and widespread destruction and severe famine.
