Unbelievable Steal: The 200 Million Yen Porsche “930 Convertible” Revival – Is It Worth the Price
Singer Vehicle Design Unveils the Porsche “Turbo Study Convertible”
Singer Vehicle Design, a renowned Los Angeles-based restoration brand, has unveiled the Porsche “Turbo Study Convertible” in 2022. A prototype of the new, improved model was recently spotted at the Nurburgring in Germany.
As a company that provides individual restoration services to owners of air-cooled Porsche 911s, Singer’s creations are often referred to as “restomod” – a combination of restoration and remodeling. In Japan, they are affiliated with Cone’s Motors.
The Turbo Study Convertible is the brand’s first open-top model, based on the third-generation 911 launched in 1989 and customized with inspiration from the second-generation 911 (also known as the 930) launched in 1974. The body is made of carbon fiber and features a stunning Kariz Red paint finish, accompanied by a large ducktail spoiler.
Inside the cabin, the 5 analog meters pay homage to those of the 930, while also featuring modern amenities such as a smartphone charger. The engine is a 3.8-liter air-cooled Mezger flat-six with an electric wastegate and two turbochargers, combined with a 6-speed manual gearbox. This powerhouse produces an impressive 510ps, far exceeding the original Type 930’s maximum output of 260 hp.
For customers who prefer a more subdued driving experience, a detuned version is available with a maximum output of 456ps. Additionally, the Turbo Study Convertible offers rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options, as well as a sports exhaust system for an exhilarating exhaust note.
Comparing the prototype captured at the Nürburgring to the Turbo Study Convertible announced in 2022, noticeable differences include the removal of the badge on the front hood, the “PORSCHE” logo between the taillights, and the “Singer” lettering under the ducktail spoiler. The wheels have also been replaced with a silver finish and Michelin tires.
While the exterior design remains largely unchanged, it is expected that the new improved model will feature enhancements to the chassis and testing of new configurations. As with all Singer models, the price is expected to be substantial, easily exceeding 200 million yen and potentially reaching 300 million yen.
