Uncle Shoots Nephew Mistaking Him for Intruder

A 49-year-old man in Thabong, Free State, has been arrested adn charged with murder ‌following the⁢ death of‍ his 22-year-old nephew. According to police reports, the incident occurred when the uncle allegedly ‌mistook⁣ his nephew for an intruder in the kitchen of his home ‍and discharged a firearm.

Police⁣ spokesperson Sergeant Palesa Thabana stated that officers responded to a scene where they were directed to the body of a‍ 22-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the chest. The ⁤victim was transported to a local hospital by his family but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Authorities have confiscated the ‌firearm, its license, and seven live rounds as ​evidence for further examination. The suspect is scheduled to appear before the Welkom magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
