Age of Broz in Romania
The Bronze Age began in Romania around 3500 BC. and was characterized by the development of metallurgical technologies, agriculture and fortified settlements. During this period, bronze tools, weapons and ornaments were produced, and local societies evolved into more complex structures with clear social distinctions. Important archaeological discoveries, such as the treasures from Perșinari or Pecica, give a detailed picture of the cultures that lived in the current territory of Romania.
During the Bronze Age, Romania experienced significant economic and cultural development, including advances in animal husbandry and artistic production. Cultures such as Wietenberg and Žuto Brdo – Gârla Mare played an important role, the latter being known for its intricate clay sculptures. Various important cultures emerged, such as the Baden-Coțofeni, Verbicioara, and Ottomans, noted for their funerary customs and unique artefacts, including bronze ornaments.
Religious practices during this period included solar cults, with symbols such as concentric circles and the swastika, often depicted on pottery and metal objects. Archaeological excavations have revealed a number of Bronze Age sanctuaries and ritual objects, including small axes, related to spiritual and funerary practices.
