Uncovering the Forgotten Hero: Sohail Taj’s Brave Stand in the BDR Rebellion
BDR Rebellion: Sohail Taj Demands Proper Investigation
Sohail Taj, the Minister of State for Home Affairs of the then Awami League government, stated that the backbone of the army was broken by the BDR rebellion on February 25, 2009.
Sohail Taj emphasized that the people of the country have the right to know the correct information about the damage that has been done to Bangladesh (in the BDR rebellion).
He also claimed that if there is a proper investigation, no part of him would be found in this incident.
Sohail Taj made this claim on his personally verified Facebook page on Friday.
At the time of the incident, the United States was the then Secretary of State for the Interior. However, there are many discussions and criticisms about his role at that time.
Major General (Engineering) (retd) Abdul Matin, the second head of the army court of inquiry into the BDR rebellion, stated that he heard from General Ershad that the then Minister of State for Home Affairs Sohail Taj helped the murderers go abroad.
Sohail Taj came on Facebook Live to explain his position after Abdul Matin’s statement. He said, ‘Here he was telling the hearsay of a deceased person in public. That is not right at all. He gives kalima to a man without any proof. This is not acceptable.’
Sohail Taj asked Abdul Matin to clarify this statement publicly. He said, ‘An innocent man, innocent based on the dead man’s words, he narrated it again from another person. What is its purpose? Why did you do it? You will take appropriate steps to compensate for the damage caused by the false information presented.’
Sohail Taj said he wanted a proper investigation into BDR’s murder, ‘I also want the true facts to be revealed. I want the families of the slain army officers to get justice. Above all, the people of the country have the right to know about the damage that has been done to Bangladesh, so that the truth is revealed.’
Stating that the people of the country want to know the truth, Sohail Taj said, ‘The backbone of the army was broken. There needs to be a proper investigation, a proper trial so that such incidents never happen in Bangladesh.’
