Massive Police Operation in Biobío Region Results in Fatalities and Arrests

A joint operation between the High Complexity Prosecutor’s Office in La Araucanía and the Police Investigation (PDI) has resulted in the execution of 19 arrest warrants in the communities of Tirúa and Cañete, Biobío Region.

Tragically, one person and a police detective lost their lives during the operation, while a PDI officer was injured by a gunshot. The operation aimed to apprehend individuals linked to the Weichán Auka Mapu group, who have claimed responsibility for several arson attacks in the region.

The High Complexity Prosecutor’s Office in La Araucanía, in collaboration with the PDI, has been working to dismantle the Weichán Auka Mapu group and bring those responsible for the arson attacks to justice. The operation is part of ongoing efforts to maintain public safety and security in the region.
