China speechless over boy’s death
Will Japan be treated fairly again?

On September 18, a Japanese teenager was murdered in Shenzhen, China. The incident sparked a wave of tension between Japan and China. On the 24th, the foreign ministers of the two countries met at the United Nations General Assembly, but Foreign Minister Wang Yi was only vague about Japanese Foreign Minister Yoko Kamikawa’s request for detailed information.

I am afraid that the Japanese government will end up being manipulated by China as usual. However, I think that the Japanese government should not let this incident end up in “repercussions” and should take a firm stand. We interviewed diplomats who have been stationed in China for a long time.

What they all say in common is that behind this incident is a misunderstanding of the world situation by the Chinese government. They say that the incident has put the Chinese government in a very difficult position.

(1) The victim was a 10-year-old child, and (2) the Chinese murderer was a reasonable adult of 44 years of age. (3) Furthermore, the murdered child is a Japanese national, with a Japanese father and a Chinese mother. There is no possibility that a 10-year-old child is to blame, and it is clear that a 44-year-old Chinese man is to blame, but even though 10 days have passed since the incident, the Chinese government is saying, “This was an accidental incident,” which is tantamount to saying that the perpetrator was not motivated by any personal grudge against the children or their parents.

If it was a personal grudge, the Chinese government should simply announce it right away and express its condolences, but that is not possible because the murderer confessed to having committed the crime out of anti-Japanese hatred. It is assumed that there is no such thing.

The following is a statement from a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“If the crime was committed for anti-Japanese reasons, China has recently continued to make statements and actions that can only be seen as inciting anti-Japanese sentiment within the country, and there have been many incidents, so it is unlikely that China could now commit “anti-Japanese acts.” However, if it were said that a 44-year-old adult organized a terrorist attack against a child because he was “anti-Japanese,” international public opinion would react extremely harshly towards China. It would prove that

However, Foreign Minister Kamikawa said, “I am extremely disappointed that this incident happened even though I had already requested safety measures for Japanese schools from the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 14th,” he said immediately after the incident. If you only protest in words, there is a good chance that China will get away with calling it an “accidental incident.”
