National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq Plays Mediator Role Amidst Government-Opposition Tensions
National Assembly officials have revealed that Speaker Ayaz Sadiq is playing a crucial role in mediating between the government and the opposition in the House, despite facing immense pressure from various quarters.
According to sources, Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has been approached by multiple fronts, including the Muslim League (N) and the opposition, to facilitate dialogue between the government and the opposition on various issues.
Despite continuous criticism and opposition from different quarters, the Speaker of the National Assembly has issued production orders for arrested members of parliament to ensure their participation in the important legislative session in the House.
Regarding the recent arrests of opposition members after the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) meeting in Sangjani area of Islamabad, the authorities stated that the Speaker of the National Assembly not only ordered the production of members but also declared the National Assembly’s Lodges as sub-prisons to ensure dignified treatment for detained members.
The balanced approach of the Speaker of the National Assembly has led to dialogue between law enforcement agencies and political leaders, preventing further escalation of tensions.
The defense of the Speaker of the National Assembly by the assembly authorities comes at a time when he is facing allegations from opposition parties, particularly the PTI, over the issue of reserved seats.
The opposition parties have claimed that Ayaz Sadiq is biased on the issue of reserved seats and has given the government more opportunities on the controversial ‘constitutional package’, which has reduced the number of coalition government seats in the Senate.
It is worth noting that a few days ago, the senior leader of the Muslim League (N) and Speaker of the National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq wrote a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner, demanding the allocation of certain seats under the amended Election Act.
In the letter, it was stated that under the Election Amendment Act, an independent member who joins a political party cannot change parties.
