# Oscar Piastri Reflects on Hungarian GP Triumph: A Dream Realized and a Symbol of Growth
The surreal feeling of winning a Formula 1 grand Prix slowly sinks in, not just in the immediate aftermath of crossing the finish line, but through the interviews, the articles, and the social media buzz. For McLaren driver Oscar Piastri, the Hungarian Grand Prix victory was a moment that resonated deeply, marking the realization of a lifelong dream and a significant personal milestone.
## A dream achieved, A Year of Progress
“Promptly after the race, it feels kind of surreal, but then you do the interviews, you have the articles written, you see the social posts, and it kind of hits you. It sank in more as time whent on,” Piastri shared, reflecting on the emotional impact of his maiden F1 win.
Beyond ticking off the ultimate goal of winning a Formula 1 race, Piastri highlighted the personal growth evident from his performance in Hungary. “the biggest things from that weekend were, firstly, ticking off a dream and a goal of mine – to win a Formula 1 race – but away from that, when you compare it to Hungary in 2023, I was very proud of the advancement I had made, year to year.” This sentiment underscores a dedication to continuous development, a hallmark of accomplished athletes.
## Cherished Mementos from a Historic Weekend
While Piastri made the journey back to Monaco, his coveted trophy embarked on its own voyage to the McLaren factory. It now proudly sits in the team’s cabinet on the Boulevard, joining the illustrious collection of 198 previous F1 Grand Prix winning trophies.
In true formula 1 tradition, Piastri was also presented with a replica trophy, which arrived at his Monaco apartment weeks later. This replica now shares space with two other deeply personal keepsakes from that unforgettable weekend.
“I never used that helmet again, so I have the helmet from that weekend – [in the same condition] as it finished the race - along with the replica trophy,” Piastri explained. “then there is one other keepsake from Hungary… For those that remember, I was given a €5 note on the Thursday or the Friday of the weekend, which I still have in my apartment. That was a cool moment.”
This €5 note, a seemingly small item, represents a unique and memorable interaction from the race weekend, adding a touch of personal narrative to the grand spectacle of Formula 1.

## the Australian Connection: Pride and National Anthem
Oscar Piastri’s victory in Hungary places him in esteemed company, as one of only five Australian drivers to have won a Formula 1 Grand prix.He joins the legendary ranks of Jack Brabham, Alan jones, Mark Webber, and daniel Ricciardo. In just three years of his F1 career,Piastri has already achieved the fourth-highest number of pole positions and the fifth-most podiums among all Australian drivers who have started an F1 race, showcasing a remarkable early career trajectory.
For his compatriots watching from Australia, the win meant waking up in the early hours to witness their national anthem play on the F1 podium. ”it is very special to represent Australia in F1, and to have joined the list of winners – it was a proud moment,” Piastri stated. “it is always nice hearing the Australian anthem. There are always a few Aussies everywhere we go, and I can very clearly remember a lot of Aussie flags in Budapest, especially underneath the podium, which was very special to see.”
