Understanding the Voices of Middle-Class Women: Addressing Common Complaints and Concerns
MasterChef host Gregg Wallace faces allegations of making sexual comments toward staff and guests. He addressed these accusations in an Instagram video.
Wallace, 60, said he has worked on MasterChef for 20 years, overseeing more than 4,000 contestants. He mentioned 13 complaints have been reported during this time. He believes these complaints come primarily from a few middle-class women related to Celebrity MasterChef.
He stated, “Can you imagine how many women have made sexual remarks or innuendo?” This comment questions the validity of the accusations.
The latest allegations claim Wallace made inappropriate comments and sought personal phone numbers from female production staff. A producer allegedly sent a letter about these claims to the BBC in 2022. This letter, shared by Dawn Elrick on social media, includes anonymous reports of sexism and harassment in the TV industry.
Wallace’s lawyers denied that he engages in any behavior that could be seen as sexual harassment.
The BBC stated they have processes to handle complaints effectively and will listen to anyone who wants to report an issue directly. They noted it would be inappropriate to comment on ongoing investigations regarding these allegations.
Wallace plans to step back from MasterChef while an external review of these past complaints takes place.
