UNDP and Bratislava Partner to Drive Urban Innovation in Europe and Central Asia

Bratislava Teams‍ Up with UNDP to‍ Transform Cities Across Europe and Central Asia

Istanbul, Türkiye – December ⁢5, 2024 – In a move to bolster urban growth across Europe and Central Asia, the United Nations Development Program ⁤(UNDP) and the City of Bratislava have inked a four-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). ⁤This partnership, coordinated through⁢ UNDP’s ⁣Istanbul regional⁢ Hub, aims to tackle pressing urban challenges through innovative solutions,⁢ knowledge sharing, and collaborative governance.

“This⁣ partnership marks⁣ an ⁤importent step in our ⁢regional⁢ approach to urban development challenges,” said steliana Nedera, Manager of UNDP’s Istanbul Regional Hub. “By collaborating with the City of Bratislava, ⁤we can‌ leverage shared‍ expertise and experiance to develop solutions that will benefit cities across Europe and central Asia, fostering innovation⁣ and sustainable development throughout the region.”

The ‍collaboration will focus on several key areas, including:

Improving City Services and Management: Streamlining ⁣city operations‌ and enhancing the delivery of essential services⁢ to residents.
Digital conversion: Creating digital tools to empower residents with easier access to services and increased participation ⁢in city decision-making.
Innovative Financing: ​Exploring alternative and innovative financing mechanisms to support groundbreaking urban projects.
Crisis ‍Response: strengthening cities’ capacity to respond effectively to crises and ⁢emergencies.* ⁤ Designing Public Spaces: ⁣Creating inclusive and sustainable ‍public spaces ⁤that⁢ cater⁢ to the⁢ needs of all ⁤generations.Beyond these specific areas, the partnership will foster a vibrant ‍network of knowledge exchange between cities across ⁣the region. This will involve organizing events,workshops,and⁣ collaborative initiatives to share best practices and develop innovative solutions to common urban challenges.

This agreement builds on UNDP’s longstanding collaboration⁣ with the Ministry of finance of the ‍Slovak ‌Republic, which ‌has facilitated knowledge-sharing in public finance management and​ supported innovative urban governance models ‍and alternative financing ‍mechanisms across the region since 2009.
