Unearthing the Sound: King Hannah Brings Raw Emotion to Clwb AFF
King Hannah Brings Intense Energy to Club AFF
King Hannah’s recent performance at Club AFF was a testament to the band’s ability to create an immersive experience for their audience. The Liverpool duo, accompanied by a drummer and bassist/synth player, delivered a set that was both intense and captivating.
The evening began with Pina Palau, a young Swiss singer-songwriter who accompanied King Hannah on their European tour. Although her set was enjoyable, it lacked a distinctive edge, with the exception of a shredding riff in her final song.
King Hannah, on the other hand, was a different story altogether. From the opening notes of “Somewhere Near El Paso,” the band had the audience entranced. The addition of a hazy mist and flashing lights added to the energy of the performance, creating an immersive experience that drew the audience in.
The band’s guitarist, Craig Whittle, was a standout, showcasing his skills throughout the set. Songs like “The Mattress” and “Go-Kart Kid (Hell No!)” were highlights, with the latter allowing the audience to unleash their demons and showcasing the band’s ability to craft songs that are both catchy and intense.
The set also featured a quieter, bluesy interlude, with “This Wasn’t Intentional” and “John Prine on the Radio” providing a welcome respite from the intensity of the earlier songs. However, it was “Suddenly, Your Hand” that stole the show, with its soaring melody and emotional delivery.
The evening concluded with a series of high-energy songs, including “New York, Let’s Do Nothing” and “Davey Says.” The band’s final song, “Crème Brûlée,” was a fitting conclusion to the set, with its catchy melody and infectious energy.
King Hannah’s performance at Club AFF was a testament to the band’s ability to craft songs that are both catchy and intense. With their unique blend of energy and emotion, they are a band that is not to be missed.
