Unforgettable Dusk to Dawn Walk: Exploring Sydney’s Nighttime Beauty

Unforgettable Dusk to Dawn Walk: Exploring Sydney’s Nighttime Beauty

November 15, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Business

Dusk to Dawn Walk Summary

The Dusk to Dawn walk covers 30.2 kilometers along Sydney‘s beautiful coastal areas. Participants experience the city in a unique way, starting late at night and ending at dawn.

At 10.45 PM, the journey begins at Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair. A lost French tourist asks for directions back to the Opera House. Nearby, a couple takes photos with the harbor view in the background.

The first rest stop is at Woolloomooloo. However, instead of stopping there, the group goes to the Woolly Bay Hotel for a drink and to refill water bottles. Walking through Potts Point and Kings Cross just past midnight, few people are visible—mostly dog walkers or those smoking outside buildings.

By 1 AM, the group reaches Yarranabbe Park, with a calm harbor and no rain in sight. At Double Bay, a brief rest is needed as the environment grows eerily quiet.

As the night continues, and after climbing Heartbreak Hill at 2.30 AM, a fox is spotted crossing the road. Later, while resting near Doyles at Watsons Bay, another fox approaches, seeking food.

At 4 AM, with the last major hill behind them, the group opts for a coastal path in the dark. The joggers they encounter are momentarily startling.

By 6 AM, they finally arrive at Bondi Beach. They attract glances from early morning exercisers as they celebrate completing the journey.

Over nine hours of walking, plus breaks, the experience is rewarding. For those interested in the UNICEF Dusk to Dawn walk, registration closes at midnight on Monday.
