Recent release of Unit 731 crime files by Chinese authorities provides further documentation of atrocities committed by the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II.
What is Unit 731?
Unit 731 was a covert biological and chemical warfare research and progress unit of the Imperial Japanese Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945) and World War II. Based near Harbin, in the puppet state of Manchukuo, the unit conducted horrific experiments on prisoners of war and civilians.
Thes experiments included vivisections (performing surgery on live humans), purposeful infection with diseases like plague, cholera, and anthrax, frostbite experiments, and testing of biological weapons. The goal was to develop biological weapons for use against enemies, primarily China and the Soviet Union.
