[파주시 세계타임즈=송민수 기자] Paju City announced the results of the work to remove wild plants that disrupt the ecosystem, which has been carried out through cooperation between the public, private and military, and expressed its will to continue to pursue activities to create a sustainable ecological environment.
Since April of this year, the city has begun removing wild plants that disrupt the ecosystem, such as maple leaf ragweed. As wild plants that disrupt the ecosystem have spread widely, we set a goal of removing 20% of the total distribution area. Gongneungcheon, an area closely related to citizens’ lives, was used as a pilot area, and activity areas for each town, village, and dong were designated and intensive removal activities were carried out.
So far, 581 people have participated in the 5 Gongneungcheon ‘Hogweed Logging’ drawing events, and a total of 2,776 people have attended the 67 towns and villages’ ‘Ecosystem Disturbing Wild Plant Removal Day’. The public, private and military worked together to form a consensus on the importance of participatory ecosystem conservation and achieved the result of removing plants that disturbed the ecosystem in an area of 85,000 m2.
In particular, in September, in line with the period of intensive removal of wild plants that disrupt the ecosystem, towns, villages, villages and major facility departments collaborated with related organizations to remove them for about two weeks. The amount of work covers 59 areas, including villages, sports facilities, and parks, and the removal area amounts to 410,000 m2.
In addition, service work was carried out in parallel to maximize the effect by removing plants that disturbed the ecosystem in an area of 710,000 m2, including Village Road (Areas 1 and 2), Pyeonghwa Nuri-gil, Gongneung Stream, and Sori Stream.
Paju City has achieved the removal of 20% of wild plants that disrupt the ecosystem as originally planned, and will continue removal activities next year by investing the same project cost as this year. In particular, to achieve maximum efficiency, intensive removal work using equipment will be carried out from early August to mid-September, which is the optimal time for removal.
Paju Mayor Kim Gyeong-il said, “The project to remove wild plants that disrupt the ecosystem is a necessary project to protect the ecosystem of native plants and prevent health damage to residents, such as allergies,” and added, “The hard work of the public and private sectors as one is contributing to creating a pleasant environment.” “I expect it will be of great help.”
