United in Adversity: Global Vietnamese Community Rallies Behind Flood-Stricken Compatriots
Overseas Vietnamese Unite to Support Flood-Hit Compatriots
Across the globe, overseas Vietnamese have joined hands to support their compatriots affected by storm No. 3 (Yagi), demonstrating the spirit of mutual love and solidarity.
Russian Federation
On September 13, the Vietnamese Embassy and the Association of Vietnamese People in the Russian Federation launched a fundraising event to support compatriots affected by Typhoon Yagi. Vietnamese Ambassador to the Russian Federation, Mr. Dang Minh Khoi, called on all officials and employees of the Embassy to contribute at least one day’s salary to support compatriots in the country.
By 10am the same day, the amount of money raised had exceeded 30,000 USD, demonstrating the deep affection of the Vietnamese community in Russia for their compatriots in the flood-affected areas.
Cambodia
On the same day, the Embassy of Vietnam in Cambodia held a ceremony to receive donations from the Vietnamese community in Cambodia. Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang affirmed that the contributions of the people, whether big or small, are proof of the nation’s tradition of “helping each other”. A total of nearly 40,000 USD was raised, of which businesses under the Vietnam Business Association in Cambodia (VCBA) contributed nearly 20,000 USD, and the Vietnamese-Cambodian community through the Khmer – Vietnam Association donated more than 14,000 USD.
Iran
On September 12, all officials, employees, spouses of the Vietnamese Embassy in Iran and representatives of the Vietnamese community in Iran donated to support their compatriots in areas affected by storm No. 3. The donated money was transferred to the Vietnam Fatherland Front through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Trade Union and the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese.
Laos
The Vietnamese and Buddhist communities in Vientiane have raised 300 million VND to support flood victims in Vietnam and Laos. Most Venerable Thich Minh Quang, Head of the Coordination and Cooperation Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Laos, emphasized the solidarity between the Lao and Vietnamese peoples in the most difficult times.
Poland
On September 12, the Embassy of Vietnam in Poland launched a movement to support people to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3. The embassy raised 50 million VND, which will be transferred to domestic authorities, to help people in areas affected by natural disasters.

At a regular meeting with the Board of Directors of the Vietnamese Association in Poland, Vietnamese Ambassador to Poland, Mr. Ha Hoang Hai, also launched a movement to support compatriots in the country to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3, within the Vietnamese community in Poland. The Ambassador called on Vietnamese organizations, groups, individuals, businesses, and philanthropists living, studying, and working in Poland to promote the tradition of solidarity, “the strong leaf covers the torn leaf”, sharing and providing spiritual and material support to support compatriots suffering the consequences of storm No. 3, contributing together with the Party and State to quickly restore production and people’s lives.
Hungary
The Embassy of Vietnam in Hungary also organized a fundraising event to support compatriots suffering the consequences of storm No. 3. All officers, employees, and spouses of the Vietnamese Embassy in Hungary participated in donating more than 20 million VND to support compatriots in the country.
Japan
On September 12, the Embassy of Vietnam in Japan launched a fundraising campaign to support compatriots to overcome the consequences of storm No. 3. Sharing the great losses of compatriots affected by storm No. 3, each officer, employee and spouse of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan donated at least one day’s salary.
Chargé d’Affaires Nguyen Duc Minh also, on behalf of the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan, called for mutual support activities from the community and Vietnamese associations in Japan as well as Japanese partner agencies, organizations and individuals. Material and financial support can be transferred directly to the addresses receiving donations to help people in the areas affected by the storm or through the Vietnamese Embassy in Japan.
