Lee Jae-myung Meets with Former President Moon Jae-in
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, met with former President Moon Jae-in on the 8th. Earlier, the Democratic Party leadership, including Representative Lee, visited the grave of the late former President Roh Moo-hyun in Bongha Village, Jinyeong-eup, Gimhae-si, Gyeongsangnam-do, that morning. Afterwards, they met with former President Roh’s wife, Kwon Yang-sook, for lunch together, and then visited Pyeongsan Village, Yangsan, Gyeongsangnam-do, at around 2 p.m. to visit former President Moon.
After visiting former President Roh’s grave that day, the representative wrote in the guestbook, “With the organized power of awakened citizens, we will definitely create a ‘world where we live together.'” According to Senior Spokesperson Cho Seung-rae, who was present, Ms. Kwon said during her visit to Representative Lee on that day, “I am concerned about a series of situations,” and “I hope the party will focus and deal with them well.”
Initially, Representative Lee had planned to visit former President Moon on August 22, four days after confirming his reelection at the August 18 convention. However, the meeting was canceled once Representative Lee tested positive for COVID-19 on the day of the visit.
Meanwhile, regarding Representative Lee’s visit to Pyeongsan Village on that day, when a pro-Myeong YouTuber announced a rally of 3,000 people in Pyeongsan Village calling for former President Moon to leave the party, the party leadership issued comments on the 5th and 6th, saying, “We must never allow anything to divide us internally,” and requested the cancellation of the rally.
In addition, as the Democratic Party launched the ‘Committee to Counter Political Suppression of the Former Regime’ on the 9th in response to the prosecution’s investigation into the ‘preferential hiring of former President Moon’s former son-in-law at Thai Star Jet’, attention is focused on the unified message from Representative Lee who met with former President Moon.
