Unity in Adversity: Nigerien and Malian Presidents’ Envoys Bring Hope and Solidarity to the People of Burkina Faso
Leaders of Sahel States Alliance Express Solidarity with Burkina Faso After Terrorist Attack
The President of Faso, Captain Ibrahim TRAORE, received a delegation of emissaries from the President of Niger, General Abdourahamane TIANI, and the President of Mali, Colonel Assimi GOÏTA, who is also the current President of the Sahel States Alliance.
Delegation Expresses Compassion and Solidarity
Led by the Minister of State, Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization of Mali, Colonel Abdoulaye MAÏGA, and the Minister of the Interior of Niger, General Mohamed TOUMBA, the delegation conveyed the condolences and solidarity of the presidents of the Sahel States Alliance and their respective peoples to the President of Faso and the people of Burkina Faso following the terrorist attack on August 24, 2024, in Barsalgho.
“We were deeply saddened and anguished by the unfortunate events, the cowardly terrorist attack that targeted the peaceful populations of Barsalgho. It is not just Burkina that is mourning; the entire Sahel States Alliance is in mourning,” declared Colonel Abdoulaye MAÏGA, Minister of State in charge of Territorial Administration of Mali and spokesman for the delegation.
Fighting Against Terrorism
Colonel MAÏGA also recalled the decision of the three Heads of State of the Sahel States Alliance to fight for the elimination of terrorism in the region. “Every effort made goes in this direction. The complete elimination of terrorism in the Sahel States Alliance space is an objective that will be achieved thanks to the leadership of our Heads of State,” he said.
According to Minister MAÏGA, military pressure produces results on the ground. “Terrorist groups are increasingly avoiding military targets to attack peaceful populations. The objective is clear, it improves the morale of our populations. This objective will never be achieved,” the Malian minister recalled.
He is convinced that attacks against civilian populations will not be able to undermine the morale and determination of the Heads of States to achieve all the objectives they have set for themselves by establishing the Sahel States Alliance.
