What the New Regulations Entail

Furthermore, the use of detachable cables will be mandatory, ensuring greater flexibility and reducing the need for consumers to purchase a unique charger for each new device. Environmental and Economic Benefits
The environmental impact extends to reduced greenhouse gas emissions, projected to decrease by 9%, and pollutant emissions, expected to fall by 13%.Consumers are also expected to benefit financially, with estimated annual savings of around 100 million euros as stated by the Commission.
The reduction in e-waste is a key driver of this legislation.Currently, consumers generate over 11,000 tonnes of electronic waste annually from discarded chargers in the EU according to the European Parliament. The new standard is expected to significantly curb this figure.
