Universidad Católica (CHL) defeated Barcelona SC (ECU) 2-1 in a Copa Libertadores 2026 group stage match on April 29, 2026.

The match, played on Tuesday, saw Universidad Católica secure a victory against the Ecuadorian side. Milton Céliz scored for Barcelona de Guayaquil, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Universidad Católica’s two goals.

According to the match report, Barcelona de Guayaquil had several opportunities to score, but Universidad Católica’s goalkeeper, Vicente Bernedo, proved difficult to beat. In the 95th minute, Bernedo saved a header from Milton Céliz.

The game also saw delays due to injuries. Justo Giani of Universidad Católica was substituted in the 93rd minute due to an injury, and Miguel Parrales of Barcelona de Guayaquil suffered an injury in the 91st minute, causing a further delay.

Universidad Católica also had chances to extend their lead, with Justo Giani and Sebastián Arancibia both having shots saved by José Contreras, Barcelona de Guayaquil’s goalkeeper, in the 88th minute. Earlier in the match, in the 86th minute, play was briefly halted due to an injury to Juan Díaz of Universidad Católica.

Barcelona de Guayaquil’s Jefferson Wila was called for offside in the 82nd minute. Milton Céliz received a yellow card for a foul in the 80th minute.

The match went into added time, with the fourth official announcing six minutes of stoppage time in the 89th minute. Despite the added time, Barcelona SC were unable to equalize.

The result leaves both teams’ positions in the Copa Libertadores group stage standings uncertain, with further matches needed to determine qualification for the next round.
